  • Fennel is for anyone who wants to up their culinary skills and make their home cooking a little more gourmet.

You’re totally new to the kitchen and need to start with the basics (like, the basics basics)? We got you! Fennel is a welcoming, empowering space for all, and we never judge your starting point. We’re here to make sure you walk away with skills you can use to make cooking a less daunting task. All classes are open to beginners and we’re happy to recommend technique-based classes that get you set up with building blocks!

You’re a skilled home cook and you wish you could enroll in culinary school just for fun? We love you here! Fennel classes bring culinary school to the public to help you build on your skills and try out new recipes. Cuisine-based classes and intermediate skill classes are your best friends and will make you feel like even more of a pro.

  • Yes! Classes that are open to kids will say "Cooking with Kids" in the class title. If the class doesn't specify, then it is an adult-only class.

  • Some classes can easily be adapted to accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies, but not all. Fennel’s kitchen equipment is shared and is not certified as a gluten-free or other allergen-safe kitchen.

Classes are marked if they can accommodate common dietary restrictions such as vegetarian or gluten free diets. When you sign up for a class, you'll be prompted to enter dietary restrictions/allergies.

If you’re not sure about whether a class will work for you, email info@fennelstl.com or send us an Instagram DM and we’ll help you out!

  • Yes! Feel free to bring any alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks you’d like to consume during class. Of course, we ask that you drink responsibly during class.

  • Classes are hands-on, so you’ll want to dress comfortably for moving around the kitchen. Closed-toe shoes are required in class. Please avoid loose-fitting clothes that could get caught in equipment and wear minimal jewelry.

Aprons will be provided in class, though you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer!

  • Not at all! You're welcome to come on your own or as part of a group - it's a welcoming environment and a great place to meet new people or spend quality time with people you love to cook with. If you come on your own, expect to be paired up with a new friend to cook fun recipes (lots of people do this and truly walk away with a new friend! It's the best!).

  • Nope - classes are designed for students of all skill levels; no prior culinary experience is needed. We'll guide you through everything and no question is “too beginner” - we're here to make cooking fun and approachable! Whether you're new to the kitchen or an avid home cook, Fennel's classes are here to teach you new skills, inspire new flavor combinations, and provide community around food.

  • Classes are hands-on, so you'll be cooking alongside other students with demonstrations and assistance from instructors and assistants. You may make a different recipe from your table neighbors, but everyone will get to taste each others' creations and our goal is for every student to walk away having gained hands-on experience during class.

  • You'll always get to eat what you and others create in class. Most often that includes eating a full meal, though our meal may be towards the end of class, depending on the menu. Baking classes are an exception here - while you'll still get to eat what you create, it may not be a full meal (unless you count eating several scones as a full meal, in which case, let's be friends!).
